The “Classics on Wheels®” Marbella’s best Classic Car Show organized and hosted by the American Classic Car Owners Club Costa del Sol in Puerto Banus featuring live entertainment, BBQ and cold drinks as well as incredible classic cars from all over the world. The show celebrates all makes and models, veteran, the vintage and the classics, with a diverse display classic car and more ranging from the most accessible popular classics through to the thoroughly outrageous and rare exotics. The event will take place on the car park of the Centro Plaza in Puerto Banus (Nueva Andalucía), next to the Bullring. Exhibition of classic and race cars from the prestigious Ascari Race Resort and Harley Davidson’s custom bikes from Marbella Performance.

The celebration is an open secret, given the discretion it’s been handled, but likely will be held the week of July 2.

There is already an increased number of visitors in Marbella and Puerto Banus, and  the 5-star hotels and luxury villas for rent have started to post many reservations. 1,500 people are expected to be invited to the celebration.

The return of the Saudi Arabian royal family to Marbella, which in recent years had moved to the Cote D’Azur, is a very important event. Marbella has never lost its high-class tourist attraction and the growing interest of the Arab world in investing in this area is a financial boost to the local Marbella economy.

Beginning of next year, the long time planned transformation of the port in Marbella in one of the most luxury Marinas of the Mediterranean Sea will be reality.  Marbella always has been the meeting point of the high society and high class tourism. Now the dream of a Mega Marina where even cruise liners can dock is comming true.

In four years the Marbella Town Hall in a unique collaboration with the corporate centre of Sheik Abdulla Bin Nasser Al-Thani, who is also the new owner of Malaga football Club will amplify and remodel the coastal area and built a unique semi circle Marina . The representative of Sheik Al-Thani informed that they have planned to invest 400 million Euros in the project, from this 84 millions will flow to remodel the costal installations.

The arquitects Berenguer Ingenieros, Axel Logis and Segui Arquitects presented their project in a press conference in the Puente Romano Hotel. They want to transform the Marina in the “XXI century Puerto Banus”. In the past years Puerto Banus was the attraction point of the high class tourism in the Marbella area, in this century it will be the new La Bajadilla Marina in Marbella.

In this coming years the construction will bring 3000 direct and indirect new employments to this area what will be a tremendous benefit to the economy in this region.

The port will have a semicircle form seeking the best circulation of waters, a maximum of functionality, capacity of the port and supposing to be a soft transition between land and sea, said Segui, and represent a future standard for marinas.

The Marbella Marina will have space for 1221 yacht and cruise liners. There will be 858 moorings for yacht, 3 piers for cruise liners, 3 moorings for mega-yachts, 2 for yachts with 125 m length and one of 175 m length. A total of 860 will be in the water and 360 in dry boat storage.

The circular space will include 45.000 sqm of commercial and leisure facilities and a 5-Star hotel with 200 beds.  The area will dispose of more than 1.000 parking spaces and will have two entrances.  This project will become the emblem of the new cosmopolitan Marbella and a worldwide reference in high class tourism.

Our Office Manager in Marbella’s Golden Mile office, Robert Christen is Dutch so the following information was to be expected.

April 30th in The Netherlands is a national party and celebrates the Queen’s birthday nation wide. But, as he is here in Marbella for years now, he is happy to see that once again Marbella centre will take an Orange color as the Dutch community (about 1.000 residents) is celebrating the Queens day here as well.

The Marbella city council, through the delegation of Tourism & Foreigners, together with members of the Dutch community organized this celebration, starting at 19:00 hours in the Parque de la Alameda. Anybody is invited to come and enjoy culinary sampling of Dutch products, some music & dancing and of course a drink.

Oh… as it would be typical in Holland to do so: dress something orange (or red-white-blue)!!

Mr Kofi Annan, the former secretary general for the United Nations and 2001 Nobel Peace Prize winner visits Marbella. He is the key note speaker of the III World Congress on Climate Change and Wine conference which will take place in Marbella on April 13th. He will also preside a charity gala dinner. The climate change challenge will be the main focus of Mr. Annan’s speech at 18:00 hours on the first day of congress (13th of April).  The congress will take place in the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos of Marbella (right in the centre of Marbella) on the 13th and 14th of April and is organized by The Wine Academy of Spain. Mr Annan’s conference is titled “The Global Compact: A challenge in the business word to become leaders in sustainable development” He will be introduced by Mr. Pancho Campo MW, founder of The Wine Academy of Spain in 2003 and the first Spaniard to hold the title Master of Wine.

The conference is directed to the business community on the Coast and focuses on the importance of adapting to sustainable measures in order to deal with climate change. The conference is open to businessmen and the general public. After the conference there will be a 30 minute session of questions and answers with Mr. Annan. On the evening of April 13th, Mr. Kofi Annan and his wife will be joined by the mayoress of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, and together they will preside the Official Dinner, which will take place in La Cabane, Hotel Los Monteros. This dinner will be in aid of the charity Vicente Ferrer Foundation.

If you visit this year the Costa del Sol and the beautiful beaches and golf courses of Marbella and Mijas, do not forget that now the province of Malaga has a new attraction, the newly opened Museum of the Baroness Carmen Thyssen. In an exhibition area of 5185 square meters, the Baroness has exhibited 172 pictures of her exquisite collection.

The paintings are distributed over three levels by thematic order. Highlights are paintings by Sorolla, Julio Romero de Torres and Zuloaga and many others. The third floor is occupied by the temporary exhibition hall, the first of which, “From Picasso to Tàpies”, opens 11^th of April.

From Tuesday to Sunday the museum opens its doors to everybody who is devoted to arts at the Palacio de Villalon in the centre of Malaga from 10 am.

The Sotogrande Women Club organizes a charity lunch Thursday the 24th at Alcaidesa Golf, Arrivals are from 12.30.  Its 35 € for visitors and 25 € for members.

They are planning a regular involvement and fund raising for local animal charities like Animal in Need in La Linea or Spanish Stray Dogs for Los Barrios in 2011 and are starting with this lunch.

They donate 25 € extra for each new or renewing membership. Come and have a good time and help the abandoned animals around Sotogrande at the same time.
