Hansa Realty MarbellaPeople visiting Marbella take the question of beaches pretty seriously—after all the town’s 23 ‘playas’ are among the main reasons people visit the area time and time again.

To help visitors make the most of the area’s beaches, online help is at hand, as with almost 30 kilometres of coast and a different type of beach for every personal preference, it is important to pick the right one for you. If you’re a newcomer, whose advice should you take? The Marbella ayuntamiento (townhall) has introduced an online initiative to solve this problem with its Marbella – Playas Con Sabor website at www.marbellaplayas.com.

As it says on the home page banner, the aim is to help you “find your favourite beach and enjoy the best summer.” While the website is clearly created to support the tourism industry and make sure that visitors to Marbella enjoy themselves so much they want to return again and again, it’s certainly also a valuable resource for residents.

The website’s map of the coast shows the many beach and beach club locations. Click on one of the numbers and it takes you in for a closer look at the spot and the nearby amenities of every beach. You may find it easiest to go direct to the playas/beaches tab and look through the list of beaches by area.

Using this system, looking for a charming beach chiringuito (beach bar) couldn’t be easier. Click on the tab and you’re presented with an interactive map. Click again and the chiringuito’s name appears with a link to more information. You’ll find a guide to Marbella’s best beach clubs the same way, as well as a list of restaurants that are close to the beach. The directory of chiringuitos and restaurants is not exhaustive, but the website is a work in progress and no doubt, as news of it spreads, the listings will expand.

Meanwhile an app has also been launched that not only provides information on Costa del Sol beaches, but allows you to reserve a sunbed before you even leave home. Called BookMySunbed, it ensures you will have space to relax at your favourite beach bar without having to get there at the crack of dawn. Some of the most famous beach clubs in Marbella have signed up to the scheme, including Nikki Beach, Bora Bora, South Beach and La Câbane.

So this summer why don’t you take a little time to go online and find out more about Marbella’s beaches.  Should you be looking for a property to rent for a dream Marbella holiday please talk to us first—we have a top selection of holiday apartments and villas available in the best beachside locations.
