Marbella is once again on the world fashion map after iconic Italian designer label Dolce & Gabbana launched an exclusive line of accessories inspired by the picturesque Old Town.
The colourful series of silk scarves, handbags and smartphone cases featuring Marbella are from the ‘City Capsule Collection’ that also includes high class resorts Cannes and Saint Tropez.
It is a natural fit for Marbella, a town that has long been a favourite of high society, glamorous film stars and TV and music celebrities, and the Mediterranean hotspot is garnering much appreciated publicity from the collection, which features a heart design in the style of the recent ‘Marbella in the Heart’ campaign launched by Old Town traders. The Saint Tropez collection is based on an image of its famous marina, while in Cannes the emblematic Boulevard de la Croisette provides the inspiration.
The new Marbella collection has been given the full backing of D&G’s impressive marketing machine, and has been extensively promoted on social networks—collecting 40,000 Instagram likes in just one day. It has also been featured on the company’s Facebook page—and with ten million followers, it provides priceless publicity for Marbella. Another four million Twitter followers will also have had the chance to admire the collection.
Anyone wanting to buy one of these sumptuous accessories will have to make a trip to Marbella though—it is being sold exclusively in the brand’s Puerto Banús store. Neither can we tell you the prices, as they have not been advertised. Similarly, the Saint Tropez and Cannes themed products are only offered for sale in those resorts’ D&G stores.
While this collection can be said to be great news for Marbella, the resort is also good for D&G. Last year only Barcelona beat Marbella in terms of spending on luxury items in Spain, with the town taking more through the tills than Madrid when it came to exclusive high-end goods and leisure services. In cash terms this translates to more than €1.5 billion, according to the Asociación Española del Lujo report called Luxury Spain. It goes without saying that much of this will have been spent in the many designer label boutiques in Puerto Banús—including the D&G store.
