The 38th International Polo Tournament in Sotogrande

At the beginning of the 60s, Sotogrande, located in the municipality of San Roque (Cádiz) became the epicenter of the Polo in Europe starting with the Polo field of “La Playa” where the first polo competitions were held.

In 1971 for the first time ever the famous Golden Cup of Sotogrande was played. From that moment on the popularity of the Polo sports in Sotogrande organized by the Santa Maria Polo Club consolidated to be one of the most important Polo locations in Europe.

The 38th International Polo Tournament began on July 28 and continues until August 30. In 2008 the new facilities at Los Pinos Polo fields and entertainment area were inaugurated with a large tent-pavilion of 2.500 m2 including VIP boxes to make the stay of all spectators more comfortable and offering a more extensive “afterpolo” so that everybody enjoys the polo and the social life. Next to the famous Polo fields of Sotogrande you can find the renowned Polo urbanizations that the Sotogrande visitor can easily find as they can be seen from the road A7 when approaching to Sotogrande. Very luxurious apartment blocks with a unique design being a reminiscent of the whitewashed Andalusian villages which where build in terraces on hillsides. Some of the apartments have views to the Guadiaro River and the Polo fields, others have views to the manicured gardens and pool area or the tennis paddle fields.
