The announcement that the Valderrama golf course in Sotogrande has been bought by La Zagaleta group as part of a planned €200 million investment is more evidence that confidence is flooding back into the Costa del Sol property market.

ValderramaThe announcement of the €40 million sale of the emblematic golf course that hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup and the plans to develop ‘Valderrama 2’ nearby using the exclusive super-luxury La Zagaleta gated community in Benahavís as a model, is a sign that the continuing recovery of the Costa del Sol high-end property market is expected by industry professionals to gather momentum over the next few years.

Luxury villas in Marbella

It is the second €200 million project announced on the Costa del Sol in the past few weeks, joining plans for a new resort complex comprising a five-star hotel and 120 luxury villas on the eastern fringe of Marbella. It will be built in the style of a Mediterranean village on 170,000 m2 of land fronting the beach at Las Chapas and will include a beach club, upmarket shops and restaurants. The land alone has cost Hong Kong based investment fund Platinum Estates—headed by Indian billionaire Roshni Mohinani—€50 million. The development of the 200 room hotel and the villas is expected to cost another €150 million.

This will be Platinum Estates’ sixth venture in Spain, showing its growing confidence in the country as a site for investment away from its more traditional locations of Hong Kong and London.Valderrama golf villas

La Zagaleta real estate prices

Both projects are targeting an affluent international client base. Although projected prices of the properties have not yet been released, villas for sale in La Zagaleta start at around €3 million and reach in some cases more than €20 million. It is expected homes in Valderrama 2 will be similarly priced.
