The Blue Flag is a voluntary eco-label awarded to over 3.200 beaches and marinas in 37 countries across Europe, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, New Zealand, Canada and the Caribbean.
The Blue Flag Programme is owned and run by the independent non-profit organization Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) which works towards sustainable development at beaches/marinas through strict criteria dealing with water quality, environmental education, environmental management, information for the public, safety and other services.
In Spain 493 beaches and 78 harbours have obtained this distinction from the FEE in 2009. This is an increase of 44 blue flags compared to last year.
Sotogrande Beaches
In the San Roque area the awarded beaches are Torreguadiaro (Sotogrande), Cala Sardina and Alcaidesa.
